A big budget murder mystery and courtroom drama. Mysterious beauty Alida Valli is arrested for the murder of her wealthy and blind husband, Colonel Paradine. She engages lawyer Charles Coburn, who in turn hires Gregory Peck to defend her in court. Charles Laughton is the self-satisfied and no-nonsense judge. Ann Todd is Peck's adoring and increasingly neglected wife. Joan Tetzel is Coburn's daughter and Todd's best friend. Ethel Barrymore makes occasional appearances as Laughton's addlepated wife, humorless Leo G. Carroll is the prosecutor, and excitable Frenchman Louis Jourdan is the former loyal servant to the late colonel.
