En Sundance se acostumbran a programar dramas urbanos, comedias familiares, alguna que otra extravagancia y...cine de género. Así es, del festival han surgido clásicos recientes de la ciencia ficción ("Pi", "Donnie Darko", "Primer") y en ese marco se inscribe la nueva película de Jonathan Liebesman , director de publicidad con sospechoso currículum cinematográfico. Tras "Darkness falls" y "La matanza de Texas: el origen", Liebesman acudía a Park City en busca de redención. A juzgar por las entusiastas críticas que han aparecido tras el estreno de " The killing room " parece que la ha conseguido. "The killing room" se inscribe en la lista de películas de un solo espacio . Personajes encerrados en una habitación, reunidos allí bajo una misteriosa premisa, esperando que alguien abra la puerta y puedan salir, deseando que esa salida no signifique su muerte. " La habitación de Fermat ", "Cube ", "Unknown" , " Saw" son algunos de los films que han surgido de semejante punto de partida. Todos estrenados en pocos años, unos con éxito, otros con total indiferencia. En cualquier caso, "The killing room" tiene posibilidades de inscribirse en el grupo del triunfo gracias a su impecable factura, a un grupo de actores bastante sólido ( Timothy Hutton , Chloe Sevigny , Nick Cannon y Peter Stormare ), el hecho que el film tenga una lectura política (es el Gobierno Norteamericano quien encierra a los personajes en la habitación, quien experimenta con ellos en una suerte de distópico Guantánamo) y al apoyo de parte de la crítica especializada que ha dicho del film que es " ...como Cube con mejores actores, Reservoir dogs sin el aroma a modernidad y Náufragos con un punto más de paranoia" SINOPSIS With the goal of earning some extra cash, four unwitting volunteers sign up for what they believe is just another paid research study. Instead, they embark upon the worst night of their lives, becoming pawns in a deadly, classified government program that was thought to have been terminated more than 20 years earlier. As a group, they are presented with a series of questions and a finite window of time by which each of them must submit a unique numerical answer. Presumably the subject who is furthest from the correct response will be “removed” from the experiment. They soon come to realize that, in this lethal psychological game, the correct answer is not always the right one. Behind the scenes, the mysterious and brooding Dr. Phillips (Peter Stormare) deviously pulls the strings as the most recent addition to his team, military psychologist Ms. Reilly (Chloë Sevigny), is emotionally torn by her first assignment.Director Jonathan Liebesman takes the viewer on a dark and suspenseful ride into the depths of the human mind, meticulously revealing pieces of the puzzle along the way. The sterile and safe environment he initially creates quickly deteriorates into an unstable madhouse as average civilians must make seemingly impossible choices to survive.
